Hi beauties! I’m seeing more and more hair accessories being worn these days both at events and in everyday life. While I myself am not a huge hair accessories-wearer I DO think it can be a really cute feminine way to add some glitz and glam to your look. 

There are a lot of different types of pieces that you can add to a hairstyle to give it a little extra something. The size of the piece that you choose plays just as much of a role in the overall effect as the color and style of it. You could have something very plain but if it takes up a lot of real estate on your head it’s going to make just as bold of a statement as something that is very colorful or shiny. It’s these larger pieces that I prefer to the smaller scattered ones. 

Kate Mara’s hairstyle at the Oscars pictured above is a really nice example of a good more grown-up hair accessories look. Just like these beautiful hair accessories from Rodarte Miss Mara styled her hair in a lower pulled-back fashion. I think this larger statement piece that’s more flat in dimension looks much classier than something uber-flashy. Wearing it more away from her face allows for an absolutely gorgeous look from her profile.

I just got my very first haul in the mail from Blush.com! I quickly snapped a picture and thought I could do an picture haul here on ElleandBlair.com. 

Here's what I picked:
 

1. Essie Nail Polish in Marshmallow. A gorgeous white that is perfect for touching up the tips of your french manicures. I tend to wear French manis and pedis a lot so I love having a crisp white on hand for touch ups to make it last as long as possible.
    
2. Essie Nail Polish in Angel Food. A soft pillow pink. Beautiful and natural and can be worn both alone and in combination with the Marshmallow color for a beautiful French manicure at home. 
    
3. Becca Beach Tint in Watermelon. A gorgeous cream color for cheeks and lips. I plan to take this with me to Cabo next week; it's that perfect poolside color that makes you look naturally beautiful. 
    
4. Stila Smudge Crayon in Kitten. This product has been on my wish list forever!! I am in love with the Stila eyeshadow in Kitten which also happens to be one of my 4 picks for this month but I had never tried it in the Smudge Crayon. I am so in love. It is gorgeous shimmery and creamy. Think Kitten eyeshadow without the fallout! Another Cabo "must-have". 
    
5. Stila Set and Correct Baked Powder Trio. This product is really interesting. It's basically a setting powder with three color correctors built in. You twist the lid and it shaves off bits of powder to then pick up with your loose powder brush. It's a bit ingenious actually... I am really enjoying the packaging of this one. The only downside is that the packaging is a bit bulky... but the product itself makes up for that. The green minimizes redness acne rosacea etc the lavender perks up sallow undertones and the peach brightens and illuminates. 
    
6. Glo-minerals Corrective Camouflage Kit. I have used color correcting concealers before but I love how this one has all 4 colors in a tiny little compact. This is super easy to throw in a makeup bag as it doesn't take up much space and it has all the color correctors you would need. Inside the package there is a little pamphlet describing what each color does which is a great learning tool if you are new to color correctors. 
   -The Yellow conceals mild redness under-eye circles with a purple undertone dark spots and bruises. 
   -The Mint conceals blemish redness scars rosacea and red blotches.-The Lavender conceals yellow gray and green bruises sallow complexions and really bad under-eye circles. 
   -The Neutral is used over the color correctors but under your foundation to help blend out the colors and make you skin look really natural. 
    
7. Tocca Love Yourself Set. I had been wanting to try this collection for EVER so I was so excited to order one. Comes with 7 samples of their top fragrances so you can try a new one every day of the week. 
    
8. Tocca Candele Da Viaggio Set. Comes with 4 travel size candles with gorgeous scents! This set also comes with an adorable Tocca matchbook... perfect for matchbook collectors! I must say... the packaging on these are stunning.

Hi lovelies! How fabulous is this ensemble?! I am beyond obsessed with the pink coat. It’s so chic…the color the tailoring everything; it’s just absolutely gorgeous. I really like the idea wearing a coat like this if there’s still a little coolness in the air where you live. The color makes it seasonally appropriate even if the weight and style of it aren’t something that you’d typically pair with the springtime.

I have no idea where the pieces in the photo are from but I went on the hunt for similar items so that you and I can try to recreate this look on our own! Here’s what I found:

To create a similar look you need a great pink coat a ladylike dress and some rose gold pumps. Polish things off with a pretty red pout and you’re set to go! Here’s where you can find the items in the collage:

Hey guys! This spring Lacoste had the super-smart idea of pairing their new collection of flip-flops with a matching color of limited edition nail polish. Isn’t that cute? Flip-flops and bright polish are two major summer staples so it makes sense to pair the two of them up. The sandals come in a few bright colors and the polishes are all over the board in terms of color.

I don’t think the polish is available anywhere else so the only way to really try it out would be the buy a pair of their sandals. Very smart Lacoste… LOL. So the question becomes do you shop for the sandals that you like or the polish that you like? Because maybe your favorite color polish doesn’t go hand-in-hand with your favorite color flip-flops. At 39.99 they’re pricier than your average pair of flip-flops so you’d probably have to pick just one…

Hey guys! Remember in episode 4 of Boot Camp when we asked the contestants to vlog about what they would bring with them to a deserted island? Well I tweeted that one of the things that I would bring would be a Rubik’s Cube. This may sound a little crazy to you but think about how much worse it would be to be stuck on an island with absolutely nothing to do?! I would want to bring one of these along with me so that I would have something to keep me entertained AND could exercise my brain a little while I’m alone and talking to myself LOL.

Anyway today I’m sharing a manicure that was inspired by this brilliant little puzzle. This Rubik’s Cube manicure is definitely a little out there but it might be fun to try over the summer when you don’t need to have a real professional-looking manicure for anything. All you have to do to achieve this effect is paint your nails in each of the colors found on your basic Rubik’s Cube: red orange yellow green blue and white. Although I love the vibrancy of these colors especially while neons are so in you could always tone things down by going with more pastel-y shades of these six colors to make the look not quite as “loud.”

Speaking of Mother's Day I want to take a moment to thank my mom for being the greatest momma in the whole entire world! She's my biggest fan and always cheers me on. I love you to the moon and back mommy! I wish I could be with you on this very special day but since I can't I decided to bake you a virtual muffin. I know how much you would love these muffins and I wish you could be here to taste them. Next time you come out to LA or I come to TN I'll bake 'em for you!

I know it would mean the world to Sheridan to know that her mom Sharon would always be taken care of - especially on a day like this. Sharon you are such an amazing woman and I know how much you meant to our sweet Shay. I love you so much and know she would love to be here with you today and every day to follow. Your sweet angel is looking down on you and I cannot wait until the day we will all see her beautiful face again. I love you and can only imagine how much Shay wishes she could be with you.

P.P.S. I also want to say a HUGE "Happy Mother's Day" to Sawyer's mom Karen! You're amazing and I'm so thankful to have you in my life. I love you so much!

Below is a 10-step DIY I found that will show you how to make a couple of these cute candles:

You Need:

• 2 saucepans – one must be able to fit inside the other
• A handful of half-burnt candles You can also use some cheap candles from the craft store.
• Wicks and wick sustainers one of each teacup.
• Candle thermometer should be available at the craft store
• Kitchen tongs
• Long wooden skewers
• A couple of beautiful teacups!

Directions:

1. Take the bigger saucepan and fill it one third of the way with water. Warm the water over medium heat until it’s simmering.
2. Place the half-burnt candles in the smaller saucepan and place that inside the bigger saucepan. The candles will melt slowly in the double bath.
3. Clip the candle thermometer to the side of the pan and keep the wax at about 180 degrees.
4. Once the candles have burned down to a liquid wax consistency pull the old wicks out with kitchen tongs and throw out.
5. Take one teacup. Measure a wick long enough to stick out of the top of the teacup.
6. Stick one end of the wick through the center of the metal wick sustainer and pinch. Tie the other end to the center of a wood skewer.
7. Holding the skewer horizontally dip the metal wick sustainer in the melted wax pull it out and then stick it to the bottom of your teacup. The skewer can rest across the top of the teacup keeping your wick vertical.
8. Pour the wax into the cup very carefully. Stop about half an inch from the top edge of the cup.
9. Repeat steps 5-8 with the other teacups.
10. The candles should harden in about an hour. When they’re dry untie the skewers and trim the wicks so they peek out about half an inch from the top of the candles.

That’s it! My favorite part of this craft is that you get to pick out the teacup to use for the candle. So maybe you use a favorite cup that you’ve misplaced the saucer for or you find one at a flea market or antique shop; either way it’s unique and one-of-a-kind. Another route would be to decorate a glass cup at one of those places where you can decorate and make custom ceramic dishes. You could leave a little message at the bottom of the cup or create an original design along the outside.

These would also make lovely gifts for friends or family. Add a scent to the candle that you know the recipient would love and put care into your cup selection for a gift that they will always treasure!

Haha I'm giggling at the title. Shampoo-review. It rhymes!!! 

A few months ago when I was visiting my parent's I discovered a new shampoo. It’s the Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk Shampoo and I bought it because I was traveling and needed a shampoo to keep there. Plus it was on a great sale. I was first drawn to it because the bottle was pretty surprise surprise haha but the scent is what sealed the deal... so yummy!

The shampoo smells just like coconut—and let’s just say that it’s intoxicating. I love the sweet tropical scent because it reminds me of summertime. And who doesn’t love being reminded of the summer? The best part about this shampoo is the price; it’s a total steal for only 6.99 a bottle full price. I got mine for under 4 though! 

It’s a pretty gentle shampoo which I really like. It’s also sulfate-free and is enriched with organic coconut oils. What I thought was most interesting about it though was that it has egg white proteins in it that strengthen your strands. Who knew hair liked breakfast so much too?

Overall thoughts? Great shampoo for 4 but not the best that I have tried. Did it work well for the time being? Yes. Would I repurchase? Probably not... but it does smell amazing...

Hi everyone! So as you guys may or may not know I’ve training and running a 5K about 3 times a week for the past 5 or 6 weeks. I’ve been really committed and have been consistently improving on my times with each run however I noticed a dramatic difference in both my running experience and my time as soon as I switched to a new pair of shoes. 

I got the new Nike Free Run 5.0 shoes and they’re the kind that make you feel like you’re almost running barefoot. I wasn’t a fan of these before because I didn’t feel like they game my feet enough support but after hearing so many people suggest that I get them I decided to give them a try. The day that I tried them out for the first time my time went down a minute. That might not seem like a lot but when you feel like you’re already going as fast as you ever could and then you shave that much off your time it is a big difference!

I got them in black but I’m a little mad at myself for not getting one of the more colorful options. Even if they didn’t go with as many outfits as the black I still sort of wish I had one of the bright colors. But either way I’m very happy with my new shoes and it’s made me appreciate how important it is to make sure that you have the right pair of workout shoes for whatever exercise that you’re doing!

1. Cut sheets of construction paper or card stock into quarters. This is the perfect size for this kind of book!
2. Hole punch your papers.
3. Attempt to not get the little holes that punch out all over your carpet but probably fail.
4. Tie the papers together with ribbon. I used leftover Christmas present ribbon! I added extra pieces to make them extra flouncy.

After that all you have to do is personalize it! Inside I have a bunch of reasons why I love my mom and fun coupons for her to redeem. They are a bit different than from when I was a kid though... coupons like "Redeem for a free dishwashing" were replaced with "I'll come visit you whenever you want!" and "I'll treat you to a pedicure".

You can use this same book idea for other things as well! You could fill it with yummy recipes for her or you could make it a photo book with pictures of you and her! Just get creative and make her whatever you think she would like!

If one of these ideas isn't your "perfect" gift here are a few more!

A spa gift certificate for a facial or massage.

You can get her a baby plant with new gardening gloves if she likes to garden. My Mom always has fresh flowers going around our house so this idea came to mind.

You could make her a tiny dainty ring like the ones I show in my Dainty Rings video. 

When in doubt girls give her flowers. Every woman likes fresh flowers

TGIF: DIY Glitter Key
 

Hey everyone! Happy Friday! This TGIF post is for a super cute do-it-yourself way to differentiate between multiple keys. By covering one of your keys in a coat of glitter you not only have a fabulous new key; you have a fabulous key that will be a LOT harder to ever misplace!

This is an incredibly easy DIY that you could do in no time at all. Feel free to get as wild with your glitter as you’d like just remember to keep the actual key part of the tool free and clear of any grainy glitter...you still want it to be able to do its job!

For your own DIY glitter key here’s what you need:

• A key goes without saying but figured I’d include it nonetheless... LOL
• Glitter of your choice - the size and color are up to you. Mix & match a few different glitters for a unique combo color.
• Glue - the stronger the glue the better but good old fashioned craft glue should do the trick too :
• Tape

Directions:

1. Section off the head of the key that you’re going to cover in glitter. Tape off the bottom portion that remains so that it stays free and clear of any glue or glitter.
2. Holding the key by the taped end cover the head of the key in glue.
3. Now apply your glitter to the glued tip. Try doing this in a shoebox or pan so that it doesn’t get all over your craft surface.

That’s it! Just allow the key to dry and voila you have a unique distinguishable girly key.

Hi guys! Today I wanted to tell you about my absolutely favorite whitening toothpaste –Crest 3D White Vivid Toothpaste.

This is a toothpaste that I started using totally randomly a while ago… I bought it on a whim because I was out of toothpaste and I saw it and thought I’d give it a try. I’ve never had a certain toothpaste that I loved so I figured it couldn’t hurt to test out a new one.

A couple weeks after I got it I noticed that it was working SO well and that my teeth were already way whiter than before. I tweeted that I had been using this toothpaste for a couple weeks now that I felt like it was already making my teeth whiter and asked my followers if they thought it was the placebo effect…. And SO many people tweeted me back right away and were telling me how this toothpaste has worked for them so I think it really does work!

The best part about this toothpaste is that if you have really sensitive teeth like me it won’t sting or bother you.  I can’t even use Crest Whitestrips because my teeth are sooo sensitive so I was kinda scared to try this toothpaste. But I promise I can’t even feel it! have really sensitive teeth I can’t even use Crest Whitestrips because my teeth are so sensitive. So I was kinda scared that my teeth would be sensitive but I can’t even feel it it doesn’t sting or anything.

And all you have to do is brush your teeth which you were going to do anyways!

Hi beauties! As you all know by now I am loving all the neon colors this season. I wanted to put together a bright outfit for you this week so I decided to pair it with the Zebra Cinnamon case from our Elle & Blair line for Cellairis. 

The bright orange is a really fun color for right now and I like playing with all the different ways that you can work bright accents like this into the rest of your outfit. I’m also quite into accessories at the moment so I actually started building the look by first picking out a few of the smaller items and working backwards.

Bright nails are another trend that I’m loving and this NARS polish is a near perfect match to the crystals on this case. Is this a color you would wear?

While I love me a pretty Chanel bag who doesn’t?! I’ve never considered myself a big Chanel makeup fan. But this all changed when Mom gave me a Chanel pressed powder compact for my birthday. It’s the Poudre Universelle Compacte also know as the natural finish pressed powder and it’s a bit more expensive than your average powder compact but I’m telling you—it’s so worth the spurge. I don’t typically spend a lot of money like this on makeup but I can understand why my mom really wanted me to try it. It’s too amazing!

In the middle of the day when my face starts to get shiny because I have super oily skin I just swipe it on really quick and my skin looks instantly flawless with a natural finish. I apply it down my nose my chin and across my forehead. It takes away the shine instantly without creating a cakey look or feel which is something I often find with pressed powder. 

I have a lot of face products but this is one that I don’t think I could live without. It makes such a difference and I haven’t even broken out from it which is a good sign too. I truly believe that there are some products that aren’t worth the splurge but this is one really is worth it. To be honest I cannot imagine not ever buying it again. LOL. It’s become such an essential in my makeup bag so as soon as I run out you best believe I’ll be purchasing it again

Hi lovelies! I found this online the other day and thought it would make a great Glit Fit post.  Each of the four workouts listed above can be completed in the span of a single song 3-5 minutes. I love this idea!! Talk about a smart and simple way to approach your workouts. One of the other great things about it is that no equipment is required to complete any of the exercises listed. That makes this a great fitness idea for just about anyone and also eliminates the two most common excuses for not working out: lack of time and resources. You could customize these routines to fit your fitness needs too.

Isn’t this so pretty? The larger glitter size is a nice effect…it almost looks like little fish scales or tiny sequins. If you want to try this look out yourself I suggest using tape to section off the part of your nails that you want to glitz up. Wait until your polish has completely dried before attempting this otherwise the tape might peel off some of the paint.

Hi beauties! Here is another décor idea that I am absolutely loving right now: the chalkboard door. I think this is such a great idea and could be done LOTS of different ways depending upon where you could use it the most and where it would look the best. I think it would be perfect for the bathroom the kitchen or on the inside of your pretty pantry for a shopping list! 

If I had a chalkboard door I would probably most like to have it in the kitchen. I love the idea of this becoming the new refrigerator door and using it as a place to jot down notes ideas accomplishments etc. You could even add photos or magnetize part of it to pin stuff to it like a fridge too! And how cute would it be to write the dinner menu on this if you’re preparing a meal for family or guests?

Best of all making a chalkboard door seems like a fairly easy DIY. All you have to do is paint the side of it that you want to use with some chalkboard paint. You wouldn’t even have to paint the whole thing if you didn’t want to. Just tape around the area that you want to paint to ensure clean lines.

Hola everyone! Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo so today I’m sharing a simple salsa recipe that you can easily whip up in a flash. This is perfect to bring to a party or just enjoy as a snack any other day of the year. It won’t take long to make and you can adjust the amounts depending on how much you need to make.

10-Minute Salsa Recipe

Ingredients:

• 1 can 28 Ounce Whole Tomatoes With Juice
• 2 cans 10 Ounce Rotel diced Tomatoes And Green Chilies
• 1/4 cup Chopped Onion
• 1 clove Garlic Minced
• 1 whole Jalapeno Quartered And Sliced Thin
• 1/4 teaspoon Sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon Salt
• 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cumin
• 1/2 cup Cilantro more To Taste!
• 1/2 whole Lime Juice

Directions:

Note: this is a very large batch – the chef recommends using a 12-cup food processor if you make it all at once otherwise you can process the ingredients in smaller batches and later mix it all together in a large bowl.

1. Combine whole tomatoes Rotel onion jalapeno garlic sugar salt cumin lime juice and cilantro in a blender or food processor.
2. Pulse until you get the salsa to the consistency you’d like. Recipe suggests about 10 to 15 pulses
3. Test seasonings out with a tortilla chip and adjust as needed.
4. Refrigerate salsa for at least an hour and serve with tortilla chips

If you’re feeling a little bit more adventurous here are cinco other salsa recipes I found that sound really tasty and interesting:

• Mango Salsa recipe
• Grilled Corn Salsa recipe
• Peach Salsa recipe
• Vegetable Mint Salsa recipe
• Hot Salsa Verde recipe

I recommend going all out with your homemade salsa. Clean out a mason jar or other nice container and then make your own custom label for the dip.

Hey guys! For this Prom Perfection post I thought we could talk about the one thing that immediately comes to mind when most girls hear the word ‘prom’: the prom dress. Specifically the long vs. short dress debate.

For those of you going this year what style dresses are you liking? Are you going to go with a short or long style? I don’t really have a preference between the two lengths and think it’s more about what the trend is for where you live. Because I know that in warmer states like Florida and California a lot of people tend to go for the shorter dresses but in Tennessee everyone wore long. So while personal preference is definitely one factor a lot of the time I think it comes down to just where you live and what your school is like.

Isn’t it so nice and neat? I love how clean and organized this space is. A super organized space can sometimes come off as harsh or boring but this pantry is still so pretty to look at. The owner kept things fun and feminine through the color choices and mixing & matching of jars and containers. It’s also label-free which is a great way to open up a space. And that chalkboard door is just amazing…I love it all!

It’s easy for cupboards and pantries to become dark scary and cluttered but this photo is full of examples of how you can turn even a small pantry into a pretty one.

What's your holy grail skincare product?

Have you ever heard of a memory jar? What about a wish jar or a dream jar? I have always adored the idea of having a tiny place in your room where you store all of your wishes hopes dreams and memories. 

It’s such a simple and wonderful concept. First find a jar or glass that you like and place it somewhere that you see often. I like to put mine in a place where I see it right when I wake up! You can decorate it if you like and the size is up to you. Keep some post-its or small slips of paper nearby and then just jot down whatever’s on your mind and toss it in!

After a certain amount of time or whenever it fills up you can have some fun going through it all and re-reading your memories hopes and dreams. It’s like a time capsule that you’re constantly refilling. 

This craft combines two of the things I love most: reflection time and writing things down. AND it seems much easier than maintaining a diary!

You know those beautiful teacups and china that you see sometimes but never buy because you wouldn't want all of your cups to be so extravagant and you figure "what's the point of just getting one"? Or is that just me? If that is you then you will adore this idea.

By keeping your jewelry displays in a tidy dresser drawer you allow yourself the ability to tuck them away to create a completely clutter-free environment. 

This is a really easy décor idea to try on your own. Simply clear out the top level of a nightstand dresser vanity or other piece of furniture with drawers. Line the empty space with a velvet or suede-like fabric that fits the surface area of the drawer. This is important because it will help to keep everything in place as you open and close the drawer. Then it’s time to start collecting! Any shallow dish bowl or cup will do. Check around your kitchen for any mismatched or unwanted pieces or head to a garage sale or antique store for some really one-of-a-kind finds. Anthropologie also has a bunch of really cute glass dishes and bowls!

If you have a perfect place that you already keep your jewelry then you can use this idea to store something else! You could use it for small knick knacks makeup buttons bobbi pins and clips loose change... anything small!

If you don’t already use a primer for your eyes you absolutely must start. It makes such a difference in the wear time and color of your eye makeup and is really worth trying. The one I use every day is the Laura Mercier Eye Basics Eye Primer. I purchased it for the first time three years ago and I’ve gone through SO many tubes since then. Not only does my makeup stay on the longest when I wear it but it also makes the colors a lot more vibrant. I’ve compared the results when I’ve done one eye with the primer and one without and it really does make such a difference. So not only does it get you the most out of your shadow colors but it also acts like a kind of clue that keeps it in place throughout the day and night!.

I went back and forth for a long time between the Urban Decay Primer Potion and the Too Faced Shadow Insurance before discovering this one and it blows the other two completely out of the water. I use it every single day. I get mine in “Flax” but it comes in eight different shades so you can find the one that’s the most neutral with your skin tone. It’s funny because my mom is actually obsessed with this product too and was the one that tipped Elle off to it when we were all shopping together a while back. So not only is this on my Blair Minimum list but it’s made my mom’s too!

OMG! Look who was spotted with our Winter Glow case in Aquamarine recently! It’s Leven Rambin from The Hunger Games!! We were SO excited when we saw this and since she already looks so amazing doing a Fab Fashion post on Leven’s look in these photos was a no-brainer.

To start things off her dress is such a stunning shade of blue. Pieces in this color are a great investment because it’s a shade that really works across seasons. It’s huge for spring/summer right now but it’s also traditionally a wintery shade that you can rework again and again. The same goes for her heels coat and clutch. All of these pieces are great wardrobe staples that aren’t going to go out of style year to year. I have never been a yellow nail lover. I remember in middle school one of my best friends loved yellow nail polish and would always choose it over the usual pale pink or clear. But for me I always enjoyed the more natural colors... until now. My new love is yellow. A few days ago I posted a blog post encouraging you to pay attention to which colors grab you and make you feel good and shared that I had found that yellow was my unexpected favorite color. 

So I decided to go on the hunt for the perfect shade of sunshine yellow polish. Finding a sunshine-y shade that is flattering on your skin tone is not always easy which is why I haven’t been much of a yellow nails person before. I have fair skin with pink undertones and a lot of times yellow can make skin tones like mine look sort of sickly. So to try out this look you have to find a product that complements your skin tone; there’s not really a one-size-fits-all when it comes to yellow polish. For fair-skinned people I would say go for a light pastel yellow and if you have tanner skin you can try more of the orange-y based yellows. And as long as you’re bold enough pretty much anyone can pull off a neon highlighter yellow.

Hayden Panettiere always has such a pretty golden glow

How’s everyone’s prom prep going? Aside from your hair and makeup decisions there’s one more thing that I would recommend to really seal the deal with your gorgeous prom look and that’s to get a spray tan. I did it before the say of my prom and it really does make a big difference. For everyday life I’m all about wearing your pale with pride – my natural shade is NW15 so I’m super pale. But for prom I feel like it really pops in pictures if you have a spray tan. You just kind of look golden.

I would recommend trying whichever product you decide to use out ahead of time so that you know how it’s going to turn out and are stress-free when prom finally gets here. Try not to go too extreme with the level of your tan… you just want to glow not look orange! Opt for a pretty subtle shade so that it isn’t too obvious and be sure to exfoliate beforehand for even application.

The curling iron seems to have dominated all other curling tools for a while now. However I’ve noticed that good old-fashioned hot rollers have actually been coming back more and more lately. Perhaps people are done thinking of them as old lady-ish? I hope they make a comeback!

My favorite food of the moment is definitely quiche. It might be a bit odd but I had it 3 times in the span of 10 days which proves I am in love! If you haven’t tried it yet you absolutely should!
 
My little love affair with quiche started when we were filming Beauty Vlogger Boot Camp. The caterer had it for breakfast the first morning we were filming and I totally fell in love with it. Quiche and I met again at Little Next Door when I ordered it for lunch a few days later and then again at Blair’s birthday party click here for more on all of the food she had for her Breakfast in Bed birthday party!. This was all within a span of about 10 days! LOL! I haven't had it since but writing this makes me crave it!
 
My favorite kinds are the ones with cheese and/or vegetable; I don’t like the meat ones quite as much so I will usually order a vegetarian quiche when I eat it at restaurants.
 
Below is a recipe for classic spinach and cheese quiche from Smitten Kitchen. I haven’t made this yet myself but it sounds really yummy and not too complicated. Try it out if you’re in the mood to get in the kitchen this weekend!
 
Spinach Quiche
 
Ingredients:
·      1 3-ounce package cream cheese room temperature
·      1/3 cup half and half or milk
·      3 eggs
·      1 10-ounce package frozen chopped spinach thawed and drained
·      1/2 cup grated cheddar gruyere works well too
·      1/4 cup grated Parmesan
·      4 to 6 green onions thinly sliced 1/2 cup finely diced red or white onion or shallots work as well
·      1/4 teaspoon salt
·      1/4 teaspoon pepper
 
Directions
1.    Preheat oven to 425°
2.    Beat cream cheese in medium bowl until smooth. Gradually beat in half and half and eggs. Mix in remaining ingredients.
3.    Pour mixture into prepared crust.
4.    Bake until crust is golden brown and filling is set about 25 minutes.
5.    Cool 10 minutes before serving.

Hey everyone! For those of you that are searching for a new series to dive into now that The Hunger Games is over I really recommend that you check out The Uglies. It’s very similar to The Hunger Games in that it takes place in a sort of dystopian society set in the future so if you like that sort of thing I think you will really like this. 

It’s a series that I started reading when I was in 8th grade after my teacher told us all about it in class one day. I immediately went out and bought it that same day that she told us all about it and it’s still one of my favorite series.

The book begins by telling you about this futuristic world that everyone lives in through the eyes of the main character Tally Youngblood. Tally lives in Uglyville when the book starts out which is where everyone lives once they turn age 9. Up to age 8 you are considered what’s called a “Littlie” and you live in the suburbs with your parents where everybody’s house looks the exact same and there’s nothing really unique about anything. You lead a very normal life and everyone has the same amount of food and money and cars and stuff like that. But once you turn age 9 you go into Uglyville. You don’t see your parents again you move into dorm rooms and you just kind of live your life going to school and stuff.

When you turn 18 you get a free procedure which is basically like a major major major plastic surgery procedure. After that you move to Prettytown which is where you live until you meet your husband get married and move back to the suburbs and have your own kids – the Littlies.

Tally and her friend Shay are both about to turn 18 on the same day and Tally is so excited about her procedure but Shay admits that she thinks she looks fine the way she is. They have a really different concept of what looks normal there because of what they were taught growing up. Tally thinks everyone in Uglyville is so ugly and that since they all have different noses and different textures of hair that they look super weird. Basically they are just describing what humans are; yet their teachers taught them that that is ugly and that nobody should have to live like that. Because of this they grow up thinking they are all ugly until they turn 18 and can get this procedure.

So Shay admits to Tally one day that she’s going to run away and live in the wild because she doesn’t want to have her procedure and thinks she’s pretty just the way she is. Tally ultimately decides to run away with her and that’s how the series starts out. 

It’s a 3-part series and the whole trilogy is really really good.

Step 1. Start with a candle that you have burned down completely. You will probably have about half an inch of wax left in the bottom which is normal because wicks don't usually burn down all the way before they stop lighting. Put your candle in the freezer  for about an hour.

Step 2. Remove your candle from the freezer and stab the wax carefully with a sharp kitchen knife isn't mine adorable?. This will loosen up the wax and enable you to pour the wax bits into the trash. The reason this works is because wax unlike water shrinks when frozen and therefore will loosen up and pull away from the sides during it's vacation in the freezer. Chop up the wax until it falls out of the glass and into the trash. The only thing left in your candle jar will be the wicks which will probably be glued to the bottom of your jar. You can leave these for now.

Step 3. Give your jar a hot soapy bubble bath. I did this in my bathroom sink which I do not recommend because my sink got all waxy and sticky. I recommend doing this in your kitchen sink. Hand wash your jar to get rid of all of the remaining soot wax and glue. I filled my glass up with super hot water and let it sit for about 5 minutes to loosen up the glue holding the wicks. Then after pouring out the scalding water I used my nails to peel off the wick holders. They came off really easily! Remove the labels as well; this was the easiest part because they just peeled right off.

Step 4. Give your glass a final squeaky clean wash. I put my first glass in the dishwasher but it cracked so I don't recommend doing that. I just hand washed this one again to remove every last trace of residue. 

Voila! You are done! Now you can reuse your candle jar! I used mine to store my favorite nail polishes of the moment. This works as both polish storage and colorful decor! You could also use your jar to hold cotton balls loose change a potted plant... possibilities are endless!

1. Words to live by: for this clean and creative wall idea just glue wooden letters to canvas to spell out the words you want then paint over the whole thing when the glue has completely dried. Get thicker letters for a bolder shadow effect. If you want the letters to be a different color paint the pieces separately and then glue together.
   
   
   
   
2. Chic shopper: This blogger’s idea to frame bags from her favorite stores is such a cute idea. I love how she decided on the colors. If you’re lucky enough to have a walk-in closet his would be adorable to hang in there if you have the wall space!
   
   
   
   
3. Design Savvy: Cover shoebox lids in patterned fabrics that you love and hang on the wall for a clean but eclectic look like this one below. Floral patterns would be especially cute this time of year!
   
   
   
   
4. Spell it Out: And finally I love the idea of sparkly letter displays. Elle blogged about something similar back in February for Valentine’s Day but I would do mine a little differently and would probably use sequins to spell out my name rather than a word. Hey everyone! For this Prom Perfection post I thought we could talk about choosing your overall makeup look. Whether you’re doing your own makeup for prom or getting it done by a professional it’s important to plan out the look that you’re going for ahead of time. That way you can be specific about what you’re looking for if you’re getting it done and plan out the steps and products that you’ll need if you’re doing it yourself.

As far as the overall makeup looks that I chose for prom junior year I did dramatic eyes with a soft lip and senior year I did the opposite and went with softer eyes with a bold red lip. I liked the look—on me at least—of the dramatic eyes and soft lip better but you’ll know best what will work with your dress hair style etc.

Basically it’s just important to play around with different kinds of looks like this before the day of your prom so that you’re not stressing out the night of. Take some pictures try on your prom dress and see what looks best; that way you’ll be confident and satisfied with your look once the big night arrives.

What overall makeup look will you be going with this year?

I adore rainbow colored everything... and have spent more time than I would like to admit pinning a rainbow album on Pinterest. Here are a few of my favorite pictures that might help inspire you to have a beautifully colorful day.


I challenge you to look at the world and notice the colors today. Pay attention to which colors you are drawn to; which ones make you happy. These are your power colors your "you" colors. You might surprise yourself... they may not be the colors you thought were your "favorites"! I did this and found that I am drawn to yellow which is a color that I have never before considered to be one of my favorites. At the end of today after you have discovered what your "you" colors are come back and share them with me.

Happy Monday everyone! Today’s Mani Monday post is a fun little Mani DIY for you to try. As you know we love our glitter so when I came across this DIY for glitter nail polish I just had to share.

To make your own glitter nail polish you need:

• Nail polish – clear or colored
• Glitter – any size or color that you want is fine; you can even mix them up!
• A piece of paper – to use as a funnel
• A shoebox or other space that you don’t mind getting glittery

Directions:

1. Figure out how glitter-dense you want your polish and set aside that amount of glitter in a small tube or vial.
2. Fold your paper into a funnel with the funnel emptying into the nail polish that you will be using.
3. Slowly pour the glitter into the funnel so that it goes into your polish. I’d recommend not pouring it all at once so that you don’t accidentally overdo it off the bat. You can always add more after steps 4 and 5. 
4. Shake up the bottle until it’s all mixed up
5. Try your polish out and see what it looks like. Repeat steps 3-5 if you need more glitter.

The final product should rival any glitter polish that you could buy at the store. Let me know how it turns out if you give this a try!

Sometimes the best way to start your mornings is with a "sing your heart out" party. Whether it’s in the car or in the shower there’s something so fun about just belting out one of your favorite songs. I find this always improves my mood and gives me a little burst of energy so this week why not try to start your Monday off with a little private singing celebration?
 
Even though I usually like my mornings to be a little quieter and more on the reflective side once I’m the car it’s a different story. What is it about singing in the car that’s so much fun? It’s not like the people next to you can’t see you!

Lately I’ve been rocking out to Nicki Minaj during my drives. I love Starships and Super Bass... and if I don't know all of the words I just make them up! LOL! Blair always knows every single word to every single song but I am not quite that talented. Plus making up words is sometimes more fun than knowing all the lyrics anyway.

Boot Camp: Episode Two!

Last month I told you guys about my friends coming into town for the weekend and you all left me such good suggestions for what to do while they were in town. I LOVED reading through all of them so I thought I’d do a follow-up post on their trip and let you know what we ended up doing!

Their flight didn’t get in until around 4AM so on the first day they were here we went back to the apartment and slept for a while before getting ready. And let me tell you getting four girls ready in one apartment is a lot harder than it sounds. Our fuses were blowing every 5 seconds we were always running out of towels which was astounding because we were doing a load of laundry every day and I have at least 8 towels to begin with LOL and then there were the suitcases. Oh the suitcases. We had so many suitcases in my room that you couldn’t walk anywhere without stepping on somebody’s stuff. It was like that game you play as a kid where you pretend the ground is hot lava and you can’t touch it. LOL.

But the close quarters were a LOT of fun. We were really good about rotating who got to sleep where and who got to shower first etc. etc. It truly was one big giant sleepover with your best friends. :

In terms of actual places that we went we really made the tourist-y rounds. I’m happy to say that I think we were able to squeeze in a lot of great activities but still had time to just be girls too. We went to Wood Ranch The Grove Buca di Beppo Hard Rock Café Universal City Walk we went there a lot like 2 or 3 times and saw Project X which was so good did any of you see it?. We also did the Hollywood Star Tour and walked around Hollywood Boulevard all along the stars and by the Chinese Theatre.

One day we went to Santa Monica and shopped and ate around the 3rd Street Promenade all afternoon. Shopping that day was really a lot of fun and was definitely one of the highlights of the trip for me. You can read all about that adventure in my earlier blog here. And finally we were able to spend one of the nicer days just lounging by the pool with a bunch of magazines. Total girls’ day.

All in all it was a really great visit and it was so nice to be able to spend some good quality time with some very important people.

I went bangle crazy at Forever21 a few days ago and ended up coming home with 5 different sets of these colorful bracelets. I picked up one set in mint green one in neon two different sets in bright cotton candy colors and the last one in pastels. I plan to mix and match them depending on my outfit so I threw them all together to take a picture for this post minus one bangle that Pinecone decided was his and is in between his paws as I type this. I think bright bangles can really add personality to an outfit especially if you color coordinate them to what you are wearing instead of just going for the standard gold or silver bangles.

This spring is all about mixing and matching both brights and pastels. You can't go wrong with color this season so go ahead and mix up colors you would normally think would clash! I wore a pink dress with a bright neon orange bag the other day and absolutely loved it! Add a few hot pink yellow and mint green bangles and my outfit would have been adorably on trend.

Each set was between five and seven dollars so they won't break the bank and they can definitely help add color to an otherwise more neutral outfit.

Happy Friday everyone! Today I wanted to share this really sweet way to serve beverages at any spring or summer soiree that you plan to host.

I came across this photo of these adorable bottles and think they would be perfect for entertaining in the coming months. Aren’t they darling?

All you need to make them are your bottles paper of your choice tape and twine. Cut the paper into the size and shape that you want secure it around a bottle with a little piece of tape and finish by tying a piece of twine around it. You can also use a pretty piece of lace or ribbon for a different look! If you want to write anything on the paper I suggest doing so before applying to the bottle.

I think that writing little summery notes on the paper would be so adorable. Or you can use lyrics from your favorite summertime songs! When I was little I loved the song “Strawberry Wine” by Deana Carter and something about these bottles really reminds me of that song. So for those of you that are over 21 a cute idea might be to actually make strawberry wine and then write a line from the song on the bottle. If you’re under 21 try strawberry lemonade instead for an equally sweet treat. Or just do regular lemonade and squeeze in a tiny wedge of fruit for an extra seasonal flair.

Try this out if you’re entertaining this weekend or keep it in mind for any future spring or summer gatherings!

Hi beauties! Isn’t our Summer Glow case for Cellairis darling? Silver and pink are two colors you really can’t go wrong with in my book so I decided to put together this pretty and proper springtime look using the silver case as inspiration!

Since it’s been such great dress weather in LA lately I wanted to start with a nice pink dress. This one from Mango is a really eye-catching shade and the simple cut means you could wear it for so many different occasions. And did you see the price? Only twenty dollars! Yay!

Next I decided to find a bunch of pretty silver accessories to give the simple dress a little more flair. This skinny belt would be a great way to break up the solid color. It’s also a piece that you could wear with a lot of other dresses or pants. A nice pair of leather sandals are such a must-have for summer and I just think the bow on these is so adorable. Finally I found a couple jewelry options to give your look a little bling-bling! The ring is a nod to the rhinestones on the case and then the bangles are just really nice and simple.

Beauty Bit: How I Air Dry My Hair

Hi everyone! About a month ago I posted a Quick Question blog asking for your advice on how to air-dry my hair and holy cow! You guys knew so much! I loved reading through all your suggestions so I thought I’d return the favor and follow-up on what I ended up using.

I started out experimenting with a variety of different products creams balms mousses gels et cetera et cetera but I actually found that it worked best when I just kept it super simple. When I used too many products especially mousses or gels my hair would get almost crunchy and just feel really gross. So I started only using a little bit of leave-in conditioner and de-frizzing treatment instead.

I would first work in a dab of my Aveda Daily Hair Repair leave-in conditioner then use my Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Relaxing Balm next. Then I’d just brush my hair through and let it be!

I haven’t been air-drying my hair quite as much since being back in LA because I prefer how it looks when I blow-dry it but it was so nice doing it at home. I actually enjoyed it so much that I found myself wanting to fly home just to experiment with air-drying my hair! Maybe I’ll start trying it again out here who knows…

Hi beauties! I found a GREAT exfoliating product a while back that I just love and wanted to tell you all about. It’s called ExfoliKate by Kate Somerville and I got it after getting a facial at Kate Somerville a few months ago. I am ob-freaking-sessed with it. It’s funny because I had it for a long time before I ever used it; I don’t even know why but it just sort of lived under my sink until one day I was cleaning out under there and was like oh my goodness I have to use this!

I like using my exfoliators in the shower because the steam just really opens up your pores and gets your skin all ready to cleanse. So for this I’ll cleanse my face first I really like pairing it with the Kate Somerville Detox Daily Cleanser and then I just follow exactly what the instructions say: I work it in in small circular motions for 30 seconds and then leave it on my skin for two minutes. 

I find that it exfoliates really well gets all my dead skin off completely gets every trace of makeup out of my pores and cleanses everything. My face literally feels like a baby’s butt when I’m done with it LOL.

But one of my favorite parts about it is that it’s NOT a beaded exfoliator; it’s an enzyme exfoliator. A lot of people think that beaded exfoliators work off your dead skin better but in reality it can break into your skin. Since your facial skin is so sensitive especially around the eye area a lot of people will get really red or almost purple right around their nostrils. That’s because they are using exfoliating products that are too harsh and they’re actually breaking capillaries which gives them that pinky look underneath the skin. So if you use an enzyme exfoliator you’re still cleaning out your pores; you’re just not putting a rough substance on your skin.

So to wrap things up I’m obsessed with it and I like to use it two times a week…it’s one of my favorite products in the whole wide world!

Hi beauties! What color polishes are you liking these days? My favorite nail polish of the moment is currently Essie’s Haute as Hello. It’s a really fun color from their summer collection two years ago and I think it’s just the perfect pinkish coral shade:


Colors like this are perfect for this time of year. Blair’s was wearing it for a while last week and I just thought it was soo pretty on her. It’s a color that would work well on a variety of skin tones as well so I really recommend it!

With the premiere of our new series on ulookhaute last week it seems only fitting that my favorite polish of the moment have a similar name!

Hi lovelies! Last Sunday I showed you all how I color-coordinated my books on my rainbow bookshelf. I loved reading your responses and it sounded like a lot of you liked that idea. So in light of that I’ve decided to make my Motivational Monday challenge for you this week to make one area of your house no matter how big or small really bright and cheerful. It doesn’t matter what you do or how you do it just as long as it makes you happy.  

For me I wanted to organize my books according to the colors of the rainbow. And now every time I look at it it just makes me smile. I realized how much a simple little décor change can improve your mood and that’s what inspired this post.
